Hello, and welcome to Wave Writers. We organize writers’ retreats on beautiful cruise ships. Our first retreat is now scheduled and open for registration! We (and hopefully you) will sail from Galveston, Texas on Mariner of the Seas, April 13, 2026.
The retreat includes:
2 days of focused writing at sea
1 face-to-face consultation with a professional editor
2 adventurous port days in Mexico: Costa Maya and Cozumel (or extra writing time)
Multiple peer Read & Critique sessions
5 nights of socializing with other writers and editors in fun environments like the ship’s English Pub
And probably a few more surprises that we won’t talk about yet. Thanks to our travel partner, Seas’N Sun Travel, you can choose from a double-occupancy Interior, Oceanview, or Balcony room at special trip prices. (Moving up to a suite, or something other than double occupancy, will be at going rates, so if that’s your style, might want to book quickly.)
What will it cost, you say? I’m a fan of being upfront and transparent about pricing. It’s an important part of deciding whether or not to do something.
The retreat fee is $249 + cruise fare. This fee is for writers, to cover the writers-only features, like the editors. The cruise fare varies depending on your own choices, such as the rooms mentioned above. The fare includes accommodations, meals, entertainment, pools, water slides, ice skating, etc. Depending on your personal preferences and choices, a writer can join us for a week of writerly fun for less than $1,000. (For comparison, you’d spend $150+ per night at a decent mid-range hotel, and that’s just the room!)
The existence of a writers-only fee implies that there could be non-writers, as well? You’re right! Instead of convincing your family that you should spend a week in the Caribbean away from them, convince them to come with you! They can enjoy the pool, the shows, or the kids’ area while you get quiet, focused, writing time. Then come back together for dinner and port days. Everyone wins!
